Liquid extracts
Why liquid?
The “foodification” of nutraceuticals is a growing trend. Liquid formats are a practical option that can fit conveniently into daily routines. A few drops in a dish or smoothie is enough to increase your nutrient intake!
Marine biomass?
If there is one thing screaming out of the dietary supplement market, it’s that plant-based and naturalness are the main trends that drives innovation and consumer demand for dietary supplements (Polito, 2022) (Nutraceuticals World, 2022). The use of seaweeds in dietary supplements meet both trends and are increasingly popular among consumers. Moreover, these marine plant biomasses can be used by everyone, including the growing vegan population.
Over the years, we have developed an expertise in the development of liquid extracts. Derived from marine biomasses, our liquid formulations are ready-to-bottle. Shelf stable, they are ideal for use in dropper applications.
InSea2® is a 16:1 seaweed extract derived from Ascophyllum nodosum and Fucus vesiculosus.
These seaweeds are processed using a water-based ultrafiltrations method, without the use of any other solvent or chemical additive, allowing to concentrate the polyphenols.
Ascophyllum nodosum is a macroalga of great economic value as an important source of various bioactive compounds, such as fucoidan, ascophyllan, laminarin, alginates and polyphenols. These compounds confer a multitude of benefits to this biomass, including glycemic and metabolic health. Fucus vesiculosus contains phlorotannins and fucoidans, giving it strong antioxidant activity as well as inhibiting α-amylase and α-glucosidase, the digestive enzymes that convert dietary carbohydrates into glucose.
Certifications:
iodAID™ a 3:1 brown seaweed extract derived from upcycling of co-products of Ascophyllum nodosum and Fucus vesiculosus seaweeds.
These co-products are upcycled using a water-based manufacturing process to concentrate the minerals and trace elements naturally found in these seaweeds. This process also reduces sodium levels, making iodAID a low-sodium product.
Naturally rich in iodine and a source of minerals, fucoidan and polyphenols, iodAID™ helps provide essential micronutrient intakes for good health. Its richness in iodine offers a multitude of benefits, including hormonal, cognitive and skin health, as well as supporting energy metabolism and immunity.
Certifications:
Liquid extract of Palmaria palmata
A 6:1 extract from Palmaria palmata, a red algae of the Palmariaceae family.
Dulse is know for its diverse mineral composition representing almost 25% of its weight and is mostly significant for its iron and manganese composition. It also contains about 12% of soluble dietary fibers exerting a beneficial action on the GI tract.
This macro-algae is processed using a water-based ultrafiltrations method to concentrate its natural content of micronutrients. The extract contains unique antioxidants from this popular red seaweed, such as mycosporine-like amino acids and phycoerythrin.
Certifications:
Liquid extract of Laminaria saccharina
An extract from Laminaria saccharina, a brown algae of the Laminariaceae family.
This macro-algae grows at a very fast pace and hase therefore a very intriguing metabolism, able to withstand the cold Canadian winters, yet to grow up to 4 meters long during the short summer.
This algae is rich in iodine, calcium, magnesium and potassium, as well as polysaccharides such as fucoidan, laminaran and alginates. It is extracted using cold water to yield an organic-certified liquid extract having unique metabolism-enhancing capacity.
The activation of metabolism by the Laminaria extract has been tested using fibroblasts in cell culture. Addition of the Laminaria extract to cell culture medium increased metabolic rate by more than 150% over base rate.
