{"id":2426,"date":"2022-11-09T21:25:47","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T21:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/innovactiv.com\/?p=2426"},"modified":"2023-03-06T09:53:19","modified_gmt":"2023-03-06T09:53:19","slug":"scientific-articles-how-to-find-reliable-sources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/innovactiv.com\/en\/scientific-articles-how-to-find-reliable-sources\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientific articles: how to find reliable sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have you ever found an interesting article online and wondered if the source is reliable?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of your challenges may be to tell a reliable source apart from a biased one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We want to share with you a few tips from our Executive VP of Science &amp; Regulatory Affairs, Jocelyn Berube:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy first tip is to avoid any information you find randomly on the web, on social media or in magazines that may be sponsored,\u201d says Jocelyn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy favourite way of finding reliable information is to search specific keyword combinations on peer-reviewed medical journal databases, such as PubMed.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once familiar with the tool, feel free to use any combination of words to best describe your area of interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, rather than searching for \u2018collagen\u2019 (yielding 240,000 articles), try searching for a combination like \u2018collagen AND supplement AND skin AND (wrinkle OR hydration OR elasticity OR aging).\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This new research yields 144 articles (48 as free full text) and brings you much closer to your desired area of interest!\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are a few more tips to refine your search:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LOOK FOR PEER-REVIEWED ARTICLES<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By ensuring the scientific merit and accuracy of published articles, the peer-review process is the critical boundary that delimits credible evidence from \u201cadvertising in disguise.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">READ THE FULL ARTICLE<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While titles and abstracts may give you a broad outline of the scope and results of research, make sure to read the full article to have the authors\u2019 complete view on the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEARCH FOR \u201cFREE FULL TEXT\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A growing number of journals give full access to their content.
